8th July- Boiling and sticky
It wasn't too warm here this am actually it rained all on my lovely clean washing which was floating in the air. i am relying on my man-made (well, Ben-made) washing line as our dryer has packed up and we cannot afford a replacement right now... (It is on ALL day too so this may save on the gigantic electrical bill?!)...
Then it dried up, the sun emerged and it has been roasting ALL day...my skirt is driving me loopy and I am about to put on the thinnest top I can find!
I've had a bit of drama today! We went to collect Marie's first sewing machine. I was advised to buy one from e-bay for her first one which I did and we went to this beautiful village outside Oxford to collect it. We had to use the sat nav all the way there which was most annoying as there was an excellent play on BBC4 about Blessed Cardinal John Henry Newman! (LOL) i was loathed to miss it just to listen to that annoying sta nav woman's voice but Marie said that I really should as I didn't want to get lost........
We eventually found it- the machine is great and Marie is buzzing away happily...On the way home I needed to pop into Tescos (I always need to pop in there but have never ONCE returned with one bag of shopping- it is a family standing joke that whenever I disappear into Tescos I come out laden with bags. Meanwhile the irony of it is that when Mark goes he comes back with precisely what he says he's going to get and never anything more?)...
I had taken Malachy in for a treat (it is rather sad my children consider walking around tescos a treat but there you go.....LOL) and he was packing the bag when I couldn't find my one and only bank card anywhere!! I could feel a cold sweat coming on- the lady was very sympathetic and i asked her what to do as it was obviously not in my purse! They gave me a receipt and said I could return when/if I find it. By now the children and I had been in the car for over two and a half hours and I was frantically searching my bag for it...I knew I hadn't been anywhere this week apart from the bank! I went round there and can you believe it was in the bank?! I had gone in there oddly enough to pay for the rheumy appointment (I pay straight into his account) and had left my card there!! Pregnancy moment obviously!
I dashed back to reclaim my shopping and came home......needless to say i am not TOO exhausted to make my planned chicken pie and home made chips so Mark is buying us fish and chips for once! (He never refuses!)
Over the past two days the baby has suddenly become very active indeed! It is SOOOO lovely, it wriggles and kicks now but still gently. All my baies are posterior, back to back, which is why I feel the kicks so much more prominently than if the baby was facing inwards. Sleeping is now becoming more difficult- i sleep with three pillows beneath me and on my side with a pillow wedged into my tummy...the baby moves into the pillow!
I know the acidity and indigestion will increase twofold soon as I am notoriously bad for this- it is especially severe in bed which is nasty. I am seeing my herblist soon and will ask her for the best remedy for it.
I better go and see how Marie is enjoying her new machine! Her plan is to make seven new seat covers for our kitchen chairs which are an embarrassment!
Love,
Amanda

Sunday 18th July
Well, the sickness is now coming in bouts where I feel quite blooming for a few days and then suddenly I'll vomit violently and feel nauseous for hours on end. I have never had this before so this is a new experience for me! I am also sad to report that my gagging reflux happened for the first time in this pregnancy! I have had this rare but awful symptom with all 5 babies and it is by far the worst trivial complaint! I awake in the night choking lietrally for breath and at the same time this vile acid has built up in my throat which automatically makes me very sick indeed. It tastes so unbelievably rancid the only way to relieve it is to be sick. This time I vomited so badly I was seeing stars in front of my eyes and gasping for breath!
Mark actually saw it happen and said I'd fallen asleep in a strange angle with my head tilted up. So I now try my best to fall asleep sitting up! (It is frightening enough to sleep standing up if you ask me!)
The baby wriggles and kicks gently often. I do have moments of sheer panic and fear but I try so very hard to calm myself through all sorts of measures! I am exceptionally happy most of the time as now the sickness isn't ruling me day and night I can enjoy most foods and drink far more water (sparkling cold water is now a firm favourite). I still have cravings for some foods but the immense desires have lessened too- I do like tomatoes far more than I usually do with mozerella and lots of sea salt! I also still love a bit of red meat!!LOL
I am 22 weeks today and can no longer wear most of my clothes. I do wear clothes, just huge ones or maternity dresses/skirts.
Marie and I ventured to Oxford on a one off shopping trip as she has had the chance to go away for a week! My goodness never again! The whole city was heaving with people, most of them foreign exchange students all buying postcards and eating Macdonald's. It's quite shocking how few people have anys ense of space and respect! iw a pushed and shoved all over the place and at one point thought I'd wet myself as I waited in a mile long queue for the toilet! LOL In the ned I could take it no more and took Marie to 'Maxwell's' for lunch (a burger place)...Even Marie was begging to go home after two hours!
Must go to prepare sausage, mash and onion gravy for tonight's dinner. Mark makes a lovely gravy but is taking Ben to drill practise (he's been chosen for the squad, yeh!!) for 45mins....
I *may* call it a day tomorrow for the summer and make Home school officially closed for a few weeks!
